Important things to know for parents & riders

FAQs and all the things ...

Q: When does the season start?
A: Officially, practices start July 1, usually 3 days per week.

Q: When can I register my rider?
A: Registration opens for riders on April 1, 2024. Visit GeorgiaCycling.org for the latest information.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Rider registration through Georgia Cycling costs $175 per rider for the season. Races are an additional cost, with series discounts available. Lastly, we do have a small team fee (TBD) for each rider to help offset the costs of snacks, nutrition, etc.

Q: How can I become a coach?
A: To register to be a FoCo Comp coach, visit the coaches information page on GeorgiaCycling.org and follow the instructions there. The process is fairly simple: Register, get a background check, take a few online safety courses and you're all set! We'd love to have other adult leaders or former FoCo graduates come coach with us.

Q: Does my rider have to race in the Georgia Cycling race series?
A: No! Riders are welcome to join the team just to get out and enjoy time on the bike. For those more competitively inclined, the race series is a load of fun where student riders can compete in a family-friendly environment with other riders from our region.

Q: Where do we practice?
A: Right here in Forsyth County, we are lucky to have a few great trails such as Haw Creek Park, Charleston Park and Matt Park. These trail systems offer a very similar experience to what racers will find at the Georgia Cycling race series venues. We also schedule weekend practices around the area at other trails like Talking Rock, Blankets Creek, Big Creek, Cool Springs and more to offer riders some variety.

Official & UnOffical Bike Shop Support

Your student will be riding their bike a lot. More often than most people ride their bike in a year. That means it is going to need regular service. Regular service prevents unneeded parts buying. If you are a skilled mechanic, you can probably do this at home, but lets face it, who has the time. Instead, we recommend taking your bike to one of our local bike shops. Some of them even support the local teams at races or practices.

Our Local Supporting Bike Shops
Northstar Bikes - Dawsonville GA
Reality Bikes - Cumming GA
Nimbewell Bicycles - Dahlonega GA
Other Bike Shops That Support GCA
Atlanta Cycling - Multiple Locations
Free Flight Bicycles - Multiple Locations
Roswell Bikes - Roswell GA

Chances are, at some point during the season a coach is going to make a recommendation on a bike part or product your rider could be using. Even better chance, they will forget to tell you. Our former coaches (The Hunts) have built a site with some of their favorite items, some with discount codes.  Thank you, Coaches Amanda and Justin!
